Fantazmz Is Painting Emotions with Synth-Pop Sounds in “Colors Fade”

Meet Fantazmz, the musical moniker of David Gagne, a talented artist hailing from Maine but now calling New York City home. With a lifelong passion for music, David’s journey as a musician started early, and he has been making waves in the industry since the age of 10. As Fantazmz, he weaves a mesmerizing blend of synth-pop that transports listeners to a world of nostalgia and wonder. David’s musical career took off during high school when he released his first full-length LP, “Man With No Name.” However, it was with the Portland reggae band EastWave Radio that he truly made his mark. They released the EP “Soulful Noise” and embarked on a tour in Canada, where they had the honor of opening for and supporting Jamaican Dancehall artist Jah Cutta. Sadly, their journey was cut short by a tragic accident, leaving David injured and hospitalized for two weeks. Despite the setback, David’s determination and passion for music remained unwavering. In 2014, David and his family relocated to sunny southern California, where he delved into the vibrant music scene. It was there that he connected with Brian Stanley, a member of LA-based bands The Years and The Mad Ones. Brian’s influence and guidance proved invaluable to David as he refined the distinct sound of Fantazmz. Afterward, David moved to the bustling city of New York in 2016, where he honed his craft by performing anywhere he could, from subway platforms to renowned music venues. He also delved into music production, lending his expertise to emerging artists in the city. Spring 2019 saw Fantazmz’s first material release, including the well-received single “The Mall.” This track, a collaboration with New York theatre and screenwriter Ross Wade, showcased Fantazmz’s ability to evoke emotions and create memorable experiences through his music. Together, they reunited for another creative project, crafting a parody video of the 80’s hit “Safety Dance” called “Wash Your Hands.” The video served as a public service announcement, spreading a message of safety and humor during the pandemic. Despite the pandemic’s challenges, David found inspiration in Manhattan and expanded his artistic horizons to include visual design. As a full-time graphic designer, he embraced this new medium while keeping his passion for music alive. Recently, however, the call of music proved too strong to ignore, and Fantazmz returned to the studio with a brand-new EP titled “Caputeed,” which was released on August 2nd, 2023. Among the EP’s highlights is the captivating single “Colors Fade,” which delves into the complexities of love and its lingering impact. Based on a poem penned by David’s writing partner, James, “Colors Fade” explores how love can persist even after it’s over, resembling a once-vibrant tattoo that slowly loses its brilliance with time. While David’s interpretation of the poem may differ from James’s initial intentions, this creative collaboration brought forth a poignant and relatable piece of music. Fantazmz is an artist who fearlessly merges his years of experience and passion for music to transport audiences to a realm of nostalgia-inducing synth-pop. Through highs and lows, David Gagne’s journey has been defined by resilience, creativity, and an unyielding love for music. Let us embrace the magical world of Fantazmz and revel in the mesmerizing sounds that this talented musician has to offer.
