Astounding artist Xafran is the musical project of producer Aaron Zafran, hailing from Washington, DC. His debut EP as Xafran is titled Find A Way, and is a four track, synth-heavy journey through both the modern and retro. Aaron’s intention with this release is to infuse a fresh, downtempo electronic vibe with nostalgic undertones and a splash of pop sensibility. His title track, Find A Way, is a track inspired by personal transformation and the challenges of walking one’s path in life, even when on the right track— a theme that can be found throughout the EP. A lifelong musician who has lived through various musical incarnations, Aaron began his musical journey performing in electronic keyboard ensembles under the mentorship of late composer Frank Loch. As a producer and periodically a DJ, Aaron has dabbled in many different styles of electronic music over the years, including house, techno, and drum and bass. More recently returning to his roots as a child of the 80s, he finds himself drawn currently to the reminiscent ethos of the synthwave genre, but aims to put his own spin on it. Aaron’s earliest compositions and many of his earliest musical idols were a part of, and inspired by, the music of the 90s “demoscene”, an international computer art subculture that focused on the creation of demos, computer programs that produce audiovisual presentations. These demos were often accompanied by music that was at times reminiscent of the music of video games of the same era, an influence that can be heard today in the Xafran sound. Not one to take things too seriously, Aaron can be found hanging out with his family parrot in the studio, who he affectionately admits is the “brains of the operation”. He’s quick to point out that she has a bigger online following than he does, and also has a true love for music. Following the release of his newest single “Feeling Cold About It” he projects a soothing sound that will definitely grasp your attention. Beginning with dreamy instrumentation leading onto his full and ear-catching vocals he completes the track entirely. Explaining the track a bit further it’s a fresh take on electronic pop, with clean, modern vocals and a neo-retro musicality. This is an emotional song that expresses a relatable tension and, in spite of its dark tone, has an ethos of transformation and self-expression. Synth-heavy and with dramatic vocoded accents, Feeling Cold About It is two parts futuristic to one part nostalgic, but engaging all the way through. To the vocals and production this single will certainly have you vibing. Being just great for a late night drive or a walk down the beach after dawn. Go stream “Feeling Cold About It” and check out his discography which is filled with amazing music.
