Astounding artist Soleil was standing on a concrete ledge in the New York home she grew up in, where she sang her first ballad – a version of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” only a 5 year old could sing. She took piano lessons for 8 years, learning how to read music fluently. Soleil’s love for words started in 7th grade with writing poetry, and has continued until this day. Voice lessons were sporadic throughout her upbringing, listening to influences like Diana Ross & The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keyes, Bob Marley, and Jane’s Addiction for inspiration. Soleil joined chorus in high school, where she began to develop her own voice and style based on some of her favorite artists like Amy Winehouse and Erykah Badu – a mixture of soul, jazz, and blues with accents of r&b and hip-hop.
