Born and raised in North Carolina by parents who were both science teachers and music lovers, Sheryl’s diverse background has always been a foundation for her creativity. She studied music at UNC Chapel Hill, where she was a Morehead scholar, and took part in numerous ensembles and bands. Her connection to both music and science has carried through her life, as she’s earned a doctorate in chemistry, taught green chemistry, and continued her research on environmental justice. Amid all this, she is also a mother to a toddler son, balancing the roles of scientist, artist, and parent with grace and strength.
