Introducing an amazing artist known as Restless Modern is a 25-year-old producer, singer, and songwriter currently based in Wisconsin. Born in Denver but raised as a Midwesterner outside of Chicago, he studied economics at Harvard before realizing that his internal calling to become an artist was perennial and impossible to tune out. He initially produced songs for other vocalists, most notably MOONZz’s “Navigator,” a pop record that went on to accumulate over 15 million streams and was synced in a national Hulu ad campaign. Soon thereafter, he began to write and perform his own music, influenced by artists such as The 1975, EDEN, My Chemical Romance, Lido, Bon Iver, Elton John, blackbear, Kanye West, and Frank Ocean. Over the course of roughly a year, Restless Modern honed his skills and developed a unique vision for his artist project by independently releasing over 30 singles. He then put out a transitional EP called scary sky that bridges his older work with the new world that will be introduced by his “a likeness complicit” EP in 2022. The Restless Modern fingerprint is an intuitive combination of controlled chaos, acerbic lyrical wit, hauntingly beautiful sonics, and an accessible nature that belies his music’s earnest and substantive messaging. With this, he has earned over 23 million Spotify streams and inclusions on notable editorial playlists like Pop Rising, young & free, sad hour, and Good Vibes. He has also been featured on outlets such as Billboard, Lyrical Lemonade, MTV, and Atwood. With the release of his newest track “I hate that I’m addicted to the internet” he projects a vibrant sound that will certainly grasp your attention. Starting with bright instrumentation leading onto his full and bold vocals he completes the song entirely. Explaining the track a bit further it’s a 50’s song that wants to know who you are when only the tech companies are watching the algorithms of today’s online world are a sleight of hand trick in which your personal agency of choice is cleverly replaced with a curated buffet of predetermined options. It’s easy to blame the machinations of well-known profit engines for preying on our most base instincts, but to what degree are we responsible for understanding and taming the rabid neural pleasure centers that we poke and prod, aimlessly searching for satiation that never comes? “I hate that I’m addicted to the internet” highlights how our personalized desires, fears, and obsessions fuel the monster, desensitizing the youngest among us and luring them into participating in a vapid cycle of desperate performance. To the vocals and production, this single will surely have you jamming out. Being just perfect for a day out on the beach or hanging out with some friends. Go stream “I hate that I’m addicted to the internet “.
