Introducing two artists known as Odd Numbers and Wallfella, they have come together to present an amazing track called “Step Back”. Getting to know these artists Odd Numbers is a Dublin-based music producer and beat-maker whose productions lie in a multitude of Hip-Hop sub-genres, from old-school boom-bap to contemporary trap and RnB. In the rapidly emerging world of Irish Hip-Hop, Odd Numbers is bringing a divided community together. By exploring and collaborating with the various pockets of talent across the country, he continues to develop his skills as a producer while also promoting cohesion and community within the scene. Having featured in the likes of The Word is Bond, Hot Press Magazine, and EARMILK, he is quickly building a high standing as a producer and artist. As well as Wallfella who infuses topics related to struggle with hard-hitting, dark sounds. From the Northside of Dublin City, Wallfella paints a picture for the listener to show some of the environmental and systemic issues he has dealt with throughout his life. A true spokesperson for the working class, he has seen healthy growth with his music, the maturity in the songs is evidence of this. A promising talent with a lot to offer to the stocked roster of Irish rappers, Wallfella will be someone to keep an eye on in the future, from what has been showcased up until now the potential will no doubt be fulfilled. With the release of their newest single “Step Back,” they project a booming sound that will certainly captivate your ears. Beginning with upbeat instrumentation leading onto Wallfellla’s smooth and catchy vocals they capture the song entirely. Explaining the track a bit further it speaks to the less obvious pandemics currently affecting the country: rising suicide rates; crippling austerity measures; and fear-mongering within the Irish news outlets. The track is a plea for those who make the big decisions to “take a step back” and look at the bigger picture, instead of focusing solely on one problem. As the pandemic wears on, the nation’s stripped-back and underfunded public health measures exposed many people to experiencing situations linked to poor mental health, such as isolation, bereavement, and job loss. The song reflects on this and questions why many of these issues were ignored. To the vocals and production, this single will surely have your head bumping. Being just great for a late-night drive or hanging out with some friends. Go stream “Step Back” and check out their discography which is filled with astounding music.
