Phenomenal artist meadowhip is the slinky solo project of Australian singer/songwriter/poet Cara Walkam. Influenced by artists like Solange, Erykah Badu, Frank Ocean, and Blondie, meadowhip fuses introspective, impatient, and irreverent lyrics with pop melodies and elements of psychedelic soul, alt-R&B, and jazz. meadowhip is an exploration of self and society from Cara’s perspective. As she puts it, “I’m here to discuss the big three – capitalism, the patriarchy, and myself.” With the release of her newest single “Am I Broken” she projects a dreamy sound that will certainly intrigue your ears. Starting with soothing instrumentation leading onto her luscious and sultry vocals she captures the song entirely. Explaining the track a bit further it’s about owning your mess and your part in the breakdown of your relationships, and finding a bit of comedy in it all. Am I broken? Indeed I am, a lot of the time, and I mean, who isn’t? But surely admitting to your flaws is almost as good as not having any, right? To the vocals and production, this single will definitely have you vibing and possibly relating to the lyrics. It would be just great for a drive during sunset or a day out on the beach.
