Upcoming artist Lonely Gimmick is the alter ego of Max Pow, an anonymous multi-instrumentalist musical artist. Both these names are pseudonyms to hide the artist’s real identity. “Hip Hop”, “Techno”, “Lofi”, “Indie”, “Rock”, “Punk”, “Bedroom Pop”, Lonely Gimmick is a jack of all genres master of all. Their work is self-recorded, self-produced, with the vast majority of the instruments featured on each track played by the artist. LG wants its music to speak for itself and be nothing more than music. This is not about identity politics. It is not about what they look like, what clothes they wear, their past, their gender, their sexuality, or their race. LG wants to share its music with the world and hopes people enjoy it as much as LG enjoys making it. With the release of his newest single “Grumpy Days” (Vocal Mix) he projects a cheery sound that will surely captivate your ears. Beginning with bright instrumentation leading onto his full and sweet vocals he completes the track entirely. Explaining the song a bit further he welcomes us into the ups and downs of his budding young relationship. Max is open with his message that not all is going smoothly, singing lyrics like “if you got rid of me, they’d all applaud” and the chorus’s repeated line “I hate your grumpy days”. However, this is followed by lyrics like “I found you girl” and “I didn’t know I was looking for an answer and you were the one that I found” with the takeaway message being that they are together and that is all that matters. This is clearly not a straightforward love song like Rex Orange County’s, “Loving is Easy” which implies love is all roses and sunshine. “Grumpy Days” makes the grounded point that love is hard and building a life with someone takes work, tolerance, and patience. To the vocals and production, this single will certainly have you jamming. It would be just great for a late-night drive or dancing in your room. Go stream “Grumpy Days” (Vocal Mix).
