Pigeon Club is the music of Wayne Whittaker, a musician, and songwriter based in Los Angeles. An accomplished multi-instrumentalist, Whittaker primarily considers himself to be a bass player and has held that role both as a gun-for-hire and collaborator in studios and on stages around the world. For his latest project, “Pigeon Club,” Whittaker teamed up with Grammy-winning co-producer and multi-instrumentalist John Would (Fiona Apple, Warren Zevon) to create a record steeped in warm and subtle textures. The album features well-crafted songwriting paired with restrained and deliberate arrangements, with Amy Wood (Fiona Apple, The Donnys The Amys) providing much of the steady backbeat and legendary drummer Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello, Elliot Smith) sitting in on the sneering rocker “Not So Sure.” The project’s name stems from an intergenerational familial hobby. Whittaker’s newest single, “Is Will Soon Be Was,” is a pseudo-psychedelic rocker that offers a startling nod to the passage of time with wry musical maturity. According to Whittaker, “Time is indeed ticking, and a lot of my new material seems to be focused on that. This song in particular is centered around the fact that there is no IS, and that everything in life is in a constant state of inescapable change.
