Emerging from Stockholm with a blend of heartfelt lyricism and dynamic instrumentation, Vilhelm Buchaus has quickly captured attention with his unique musical expression. Born in 2001, this rising artist employs guitar and vocals as his primary tools, drawing influence from a diverse array of musical icons including John Mayer, Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits, Ed Sheeran, and The 1975. His work reflects a modern singer/songwriter tradition, often enhanced by a rock band setup that features lush piano arrangements, acoustic elements, and both bombastic drums and distorted guitars.
Buchaus embarked on his musical journey through YouTube, where he spent a year sharing covers and original compositions. His official debut in 2023 with the single “First Cut” marked the beginning of a promising career, characterized by his pleasant voice and skilled guitar playing. His music, such as tracks like “Together,” “Take Me To The Moon,” and “Nothing At All,” often explores themes of loneliness and the search for meaning, resonating deeply with listeners through personal and evocative storytelling.
As 2024 unfolds, Buchaus continues to push boundaries with new releases leading up to his debut EP, scheduled for release in the fall through the German label Guesstimate, under exclusive license from TEN Records. Among these releases is “Snow In The Summer,” a rock track that sets the tone for the EP, followed by the emotionally charged singles “Dying Light” and “Break My Heart Again.”
The latter, “Break My Heart Again,” is a poignant ballad that delves into the agonies of destructive love. This track, released on July 26th, takes listeners on an emotional journey through the pains of a relationship that Buchaus continually finds himself drawn to, despite the heartbreak it inevitably causes. With its simple yet profound composition of piano chords and subtle strings, the song captures the essence of longing and frustration in the face of unresolved love.
Reflecting on the song, Buchaus shares, “I wrote ‘Break My Heart Again’ about being stuck in a broken relationship that doesn’t work, despite trying multiple times. I knew the relationship caused me more pain than joy, but I still hoped for a different outcome, and that feeling inspired this song.” The track is crafted with a keen sense of vulnerability and raw emotion, reflecting Buchaus’s collaboration with Jacob Werner and Amanda Kongshaug in both writing and production.
As Vilhelm Buchaus prepares to unveil his debut EP later this year, “Break My Heart Again” offers a compelling preview of his ability to weave deeply personal themes into captivating music. Fans and new listeners alike can anticipate an engaging blend of emotion and artistry that marks this promising artist’s evolving career.
