Introducing an amazing artist known as Daphine he is the alter ego of Sydney drummer and producer Alistair Hayes. After ambling through a degree in jazz performance, the self-proclaimed “jazz nerd” renounced his education in the name of alternative indie-pop. Daphnie produces unusual but fun soundscapes to support his catchy pop melodies and pulls lyrically understated metaphors from his personal relationships. Daphnie has honed his songwriting skills by writing music with and playing drums for artists like Lola Scott, ioakim, LORA, and RIIKI REID. After realizing that sitting down and hitting things isn’t the only thing he wants to do on stage, the drummer turned producer started writing his own music and defining his sonic signatures through the covid lockdowns of 2020 and 2021, releasing his first single “Late” in May 2022. Enlisting the help of producers like George Nicholas (Cosmo’s Midnight, Mansionair), Liam Quinn (Peach PRC), and Joel Quartermain (G Flip, Jack River) to lay the finishing touches by mixing his first few singles. Following the release of his newest single “Late”, he projects a vibrant sound that will definitely intrigue your ears. Starting with bright instrumentation leading onto his sweet and catchy vocals he captures the song fully. Explaining the track a bit further it’s about the feeling of not knowing if you’re going to break up or fall in love. After almost being broken up with the girl of his dreams, being in the best relationship of your life but noticing your own personal flaws get in the way of properly committing. You try to patch issues with flowers and the same apologies you’ve made every other time, but the superficial fixes don’t help for long enough to make a difference. You see the crash coming but barely even swerve away. It’s not a surprise, you watched it all happen. Late is a take me back song before you’ve even ended things. Take us back to when the issues didn’t matter because we weren’t serious. To the vocals and production, this single will definitely have you jamming out. Being just great for a late-night drive or a day out on the beach. Go stream “Late” and be on the lookout for new music from this talented act.
