Talented band Bae Baracus is the exuberant crossing of the creative streams of musician & producer Lin Gardiner (Julia Sound), instrumentalist & vocalist Clef Seeley (Tetrahedron), and lead singer Dolly De Guerre (Ghostcards). Their sound is far from typical, however, as can be heard on their debut Flow & Fire EP (released in the fall of 2020) and Go No Go (which was released last fall) – their tunes are a deeper foray into quirky, polished dance-punk. Powered by Lin G’s considerable arrangement and production chops, Clef’s skilled multi-instrumental playfulness, and Dolly’s jaggedly lyrical sensibilities, the Bae Baracus sound taps into the 21st-century zeitgeist and channels it with the timelessness of unashamedly pop-at-heart sparkle. Their off-the-cuff, tongue-in-cheek aesthetic pervades their visual art too, with videos for their singles acting as an obvious manifestation of their punky, DIY-disco ethic. Rich in themes of empowerment and empathy, their music is truly for the current times. Following the release of their newest single “Chaos Is Money,” they project a thrilling sound that will certainly grasp your attention. Beginning with vibrant instrumentation leading onto their sweet and intoxicating vocals they capture the song entirely. Explaining the track a bit further it’s about the melting pot of annoyance and stresses at the freedom conveyers, Covid misinformation, the war in Ukraine, a swing to the right in many places, disaster capitalists, the increased threat of geopolitical instability, and the persistent backdrop of climate anxiety. They decided to make the song reclaim the term “Freedom” from populist bad faith actors defending economic interests, and put it firmly back in the hands of movements for social equality. It’s a song of hope. To the vocals and production, this single will definitely have you dancing. It would be just perfect for a late-night drive or jamming out with some friends.
