Varas is a 25-year-old self-taught producer, singer, and songwriter from Sweden with roots in Chile. His music is a blend of different genres, including classic rock, punk, hip-hop, and jazz. Varas’s signature sound is a mix of diverse references ranging from Queen, the Rolling Stones, Tyler, the Creator, and Kanye West. His music deals with short, solid, almost-pop songs that aren’t afraid to stray into unexpected areas, making his music difficult to define. Varas’s music journey began at the age of 12 when his father introduced him to Led Zeppelin. He started playing the guitar and dreamed of being on stage. At 15, he moved to Gothenburg, where he began producing hip-hop beats. His music production became more organic as he played more guitar, leading to the development of his multifaceted signature sound. Varas’s debut single, “Comfy,” featuring Raghd, was released in 2019, followed by several other expressive and adventurous releases, including “Radiobaby” featuring Johnny Bennett, and “Pretty Boys.” He released his EP, “Set One,” in 2020, which further solidified his fearlessness to experiment with his soundscape. Varas’s new music takes him into new territory with strongly melodic, sweetly simple, and direct songwriting beyond what it was before, breaking any genre box he might have been placed in. His songs are a jumble of emotions, pivoting between playful, raw, and intense, showcasing Varas’s ability to alternate between different genres. Varas’s newest single, “Hell No,” is about avoiding responsibilities and feeling as though you wouldn’t be able to handle them if you were to hear about them, instead wanting the highlights, easy-going days, and the weekends. It is a mixture of indie rock and dreamy pop, highlighting Varas’s ability to seamlessly alternate between genres. Varas’s music is an embodiment of his multifaceted personality, reflecting his ability to draw inspiration from different styles of music. His music production pulls simple songs written on the guitar and transforms them into something completely new, soaring into indie rock, dreamy pop, or scuzzy punk. Varas’s upcoming EP, scheduled for release in spring 2023, is eagerly anticipated, and fans can’t wait to see what he has in store for them.
