Sufferin Mall is the musical project of Yoyo Comay, a musician and writer based in Toronto. The project takes its name from the infamous Dufferin Mall, a space that played a formative role in Yoyo’s early experiences with desire and suffering. As a writer, Yoyo is also known for his poetry, and his first book, States of Emergency, is set to be published by Vehicule Press in 2023. Sufferin Mall’s music is characterized by a unique blend of poetry and pop, with a focus on the sounds of words and a dedication to providing maximal pleasure for listeners. Despite this pop sensibility, the music of Sufferin Mall also rewards deeper reflection, making it a project that has something to offer for everyone. Sufferin Mall’s newest single, “Latency,” was co-produced with Casey Moon and explores the feeling of being overwhelmed by infatuation. It’s a pop track that captures the tension and release of desire, with stop-start energy that mirrors the feeling of being out of sync and waiting for gratification. “Latency” is a perfect track to listen to in a variety of settings. It could be the perfect accompaniment to a late-night drive or a solo dance party in your living room. Alternatively, it could also be a great addition to a playlist for a workout or other high-energy activity. No matter where you choose to listen, “Latency” is sure to be a memorable and thought-provoking track.
