Melodic hooks, soaring harmonies, and vintage 80’s synth and guitar vibes define the sound of Alta Falls, a Brisbane-based indie alternative band that was formed during the onset of COVID-19. The band’s members spent much of 2020’s lockdown exploring the social and global landscapes brought to light by the pandemic, and with the help of producer Aidan Hogg (Jaguar Jonze, Holy Holy) and drummer Sebastian Jennings Hingston (Tia Gostelow), they’ve crafted a collection of tracks that showcase their diverse range of influences and make their mark on these subjects through song. April 2021 introduced Alta Falls’ debut single, “Take Me On Down,” a track that asks how we got so sure about things and so stuck in our own heads that we can’t even see things from someone else’s perspective. The song imagines a world where people see things from the other side and combines glimpses of The Preatures’ rhythms, Spacey Jane’s guitars, The Weeknd’s synth lines, and The Wombats’ energy to put their own spin on modern indie. With its slow build of instrumentation and shimmering vocals leading to a fiery chorus that is masterfully catchy, “Take Me On Down” is an exciting introduction to Alta Falls’ unique sound. Alta Falls’ newest single, “I’m At A Loss,” takes us on a journey through the feeling of being lost and overwhelmed in the unknown. The song explores what it means to be at a loss, but also holds high hopes for the future and encourages listeners to breathe through the present moment. With its emotive lyrics and soaring melodies, “I’m At A Loss” is a powerful track that is sure to resonate with listeners. As Alta Falls continues to release more music, they are making their mark on the independent Australian music scene.
