Talented duo SpaceAcre makes music that is so boundless and evocative that it’ll leave you crying on the train as you stare out of the window, transported into the lead role of your own tragic melodrama. You’re in slow motion, hair blowing in the breeze, moving towards a shadowy destination with a sense of longing, on the edge of an elaborate subplot that’s unraveling itself in the mist. In a collision of opposing musical forces, a sort of controlled chaos, Phoebe Little and Jas Scott forge something that’s alive with fire in its belly. Amid heavy drums, menacing grooves, and epic cinematic strings, haunting melodies are made almost tangible by Phoebe’s spine-tingling vocals and the pair’s devastating yet resonant lyrics. SpaceAcre formed in the middle of the English Channel on a ferry back to the UK. For Phoebe, who was raised on a diet of singer-songwriters, Jas’s more experimental approach was something of a baptism of fire: “Jas’ brain works in such a different way to mine and I had never written like that before.” At the same time, Jas experienced her own artistic revelation. One of seven artistic sisters and from a long line of musicians – her great grandma was a pub singer and her father was the synth player in British new wave band Kajagoogoo to name just two examples – writing music filled with stories and references to her own life was something she’d never done before. With the release of their newest single “Chemicals”, they project a captivating sound that will definitely grasp your attention. Starting with dreamy instrumentation leading onto their sweet and intoxicating vocals they complete the song entirely. Explaining the track a bit further it’s about how chemicals can affect someone’s brain, whether they are naturally occurring or not. It has a multi-layered meaning as we all have stuff that we’re addicted to. To the vocals and production, this single will certainly have you jamming out and singing along to the lyrics. It would be just perfect for a late-night drive or a walk down the beach after dawn. Go stream “Chemicals” and check out their discography which is filled with outstanding music.
