Talented artist Anna Shoemaker is a Brooklyn-based singer, songwriter, and producer. Described by NYLON as “Brooklyn’s own Olivia Rodrigo,” Anna Shoemaker has quickly emerged as the next indie-pop darling to watch. Combining alt-leaning production, intoxicating pop melodies, and notably honest lyricism, her songs capture the turmoil, charm, and introspection of young adulthood. Over the past few years, Anna has become a main player in New York City’s indie music scene alongside artists like Middle Part and Richie Quake and producers like Kristos and Invisible Will, all of whom played a part in bringing Anna’s debut album to life. Originally hailing from Philadelphia, Anna first made her mark by releasing a viral mashup of Kendrick Lamar’s “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe” and Chance the Rapper’s “Cocoa Butter Kisses” right from her bedroom floor. She has released 2 EPs since – ‘East Side’ (2018) and ‘Everything Is Embarrassing’ (2020) – as well as a handful of standout singles. Now, Anna is revealing her debut album, Everything is Fine (I’m Only on Fire). With the release of her newest single “I’m Your Guy” she presents a dreamy sound that will certainly captivate your ears. Starting with dazzling instrumentation leading onto her sweet and smooth vocals she completes the song entirely. To explain the track a bit further it’s an intimate alt-rock ballad about unconditional love. Throughout the song, Anna subverts traditional gender roles and pronouns with lyrics like, “baby if you’ll be my man / I’m your guy / I will get you through your lonely night.” Rejecting the notion of conventional romance and hetero relationship norms, the song advocates for the type of love with both lovers and friends where we all have each other’s backs, no matter what.
