Amazing artist Daphnie is the alter ego of Sydney drummer and producer Alistair Hayes. After ambling through a degree in jazz performance, the self-proclaimed “jazz nerd” renounced his education in the name of alternative indie-pop. Daphnie produces unusual but fun soundscapes to support his catchy pop melodies and pulls lyrically understated metaphors from his personal relationships. Daphnie has honed his songwriting skills by producing music with and playing drums for artists like Lola Scott, ioakim, LORA, and RIIKI REID. After realizing that sitting down and hitting things isn’t the only thing he wants to do on stage, the drummer turned producer started writing his own music and defining his sonic signatures through the covid lockdowns of 2020 and 2021, releasing his first single “Late” in May 2022. Enlisting the help of producers like George Nicholas (Cosmo’s Midnight, Mansionair), Liam Quinn (Peach PRC), and Joel Quartermain (G Flip, Jack River) to lay the finishing touches by mixing his first few singles, Daphnie is set to be consistently pushing his music out into the world, so go get ready for it. Following the release of his newest track “Sugarcoat” he projects a vibrant sound that will certainly grasp your ears. Starting with bright instrumentation leading onto his full and bubbly vocals he completes this track entirely. Explaining the song a bit further it’s the feeling of falling in love with a stranger who you’ve passed on the street. You imagine talking to them and living an entire life together before they walk out of sight faster than you could find the courage to say hi. You hope to see them again, and you do! It’s been ages, you’re not having the best day and it looks like they’re not either. With the same pair of shoes, they wore the first time, now tattered and old, you’d still choose them in a heartbeat. Your fantasy of everything they are and what you could be together sugarcoating every idea you have of them. To the vocals and production, this single will surely have you jamming out. Being just perfect for a drive during sunset or a day out on the beach. Go stream “Sugarcoat”.
