Upcoming band The Shop Window is a four-strong Jangle-pop/Indie-pop guitar band from Maidstone, Kent, fronted by partners in crime, Carl Mann and Simon ‘Syd’ Oxlee. Completing the lineup in the formidable rhythm section are Martin Corder (Bass) and Phil Elphee (Drums). Carl and Syd’s journey began over two decades ago when they landed their first record deal in the mid-late 90s in previous project Westpier, label mates with Sleeper on Indolent Records (BMG). Once Westpier folded, Carl ended up depping on guitar for Sleeper for one of their tours. Around the same time, Carl also ended up playing guitar (dep) for Kylie Minogue, for TV performances, gigs, and a tour of Australia and even co-wrote a track that ended up on a Kylie B-Side in 2000. The band released several acclaimed singles in 2020/2021. Those singles were followed up with the critically acclaimed debut album ‘The State of Being Human’ in June 2021. So well was the album received by the indie music fraternity, which is featured in many end-of-year Best Album of 2021’ lists. Nov 21 & Feb 22 saw digital single releases for ‘Lay Of The Land’ & ‘Lighthouse’ from the band’s forthcoming second album. Both releases had glowing reviews and great radio support including plays from Gary Growley (BBC Radio London) and Abbie McCarthy (BBC introducing). The band has been going down very well live, playing recent shows in Tunbridge Wells/ London/ Manchester, and Maidstone. Post-Covid, live shows have included Paul Reeves on additional guitar, and going forward will now feature as a full-time member. Following the release of their newest single “Eyes Wide Shut”, they present a dazzling sound that will certainly grasp your attention. Starting with bright instrumentation leading onto their sweet and ear-catching vocals they complete the song entirely. Explaining the track a bit further it’s about secret crushes; that sense of being a little bit in love with someone from afar but knowing that for one reason or another you’ll never be able to share your secrets. It’s feeling the energy of that spark, the excitement of knowing someone is alive and in the world but that it will ultimately never happen. Wondering if they have felt it too and looking for those subtle signs that maybe you’ve connected on some level. To the vocals and production, this single will surely have you dancing and even singing along to the lyrics. Being just great for a drive during sunset or a day out on the beach. Go stream “Eyes Wide Shut”.
