Upcoming artist Bella Marcy entered into music and songwriting at just 19 years old. As a multi-instrumentalist, Bella has conquered up to 6 instruments, starting when she was 7 years old. Writing music has been Bella’s creative outlet for years, combined with a history at Berklee College of Music (where she attended their summer program at age 15) and training under Victor Wooten. She practices the art of songwriting daily, perfecting her craft. She relates to a wide variety of people, effortlessly able to connect with her audience. Joining her first band at 17 as a bassist, Bella began collaborating with other artists. She and two other musicians crafted emotive grunge melodies, thrashing their heads back and forth to the heavily distorted music until the headache was satisfyingly inescapable. Although Bella now pursues the genre antipop, her grunge and post-punk roots still live within her, now working as a deep inspiration for her contemporary music. Bella describes her genre as “pop through an alternative lens” and works with her producer, Niko, to achieve this sound. With the release of her newest single “Versailles”, she projects a thrilling sound that will certainly intrigue your ears. Beginning with vibrant instrumentation leading onto her full and ear-catching vocals she completes the track entirely. Explaining the song further it’s a song of overwhelming love and yearning. As a music industry major at UCLA, she studies a variety of topics and was inspired by a class lecture on the history of art in France, learning about the intricacies of the Palace of Versailles – more specifically, the Hall of Mirrors. Expecting a call from her boyfriend, Bella’s new knowledge of art history melded into her personal thoughts. As she waited by the phone, she wrote the demo and reflected. ‘Versailles’ encapsulates the beauty and refinement of the French palace and employs its elaborate embellishments as a metaphor for the complexity of love. To the vocals and production, this single will definitely have you jamming out. It would be just perfect for a late-night drive or hanging out with some friends.
