Introducing an outstanding artist that has been featured on our blog before known as Just Super he is a Los Angeles-based producer/ bass player/ engineer/ songwriter/ mediocre singer who is responsible for a genre he calls “emo jazz”; a fever dream of indie, progressive R&B, pop, jazz, and emo. Just Super is the frenzied alter ego of Geo Botelho, a Massachusetts truck driver and preschool teacher turned tortured artist. After years of playing bass in punk bands in high school, Just Super went on to leave the family excavation business to pursue a career in music by attending Berklee College of Music. There, in Boston, he would pick up a degree in Music Production & Engineering along with an infinite love of jazz and an infinite pit of debt. Once he graduated, he moved to Los Angeles and began releasing music under the moniker GEO in 2017; a mostly instrumental-based project where he explored his creativity as a producer and songwriter. Just Super would go on to release 10 songs under his moniker GEO gaining millions of listens and a few DM’s here and there. His own projects aside, as an engineer he has worked with the likes of Phoebe Bridgers, MUNA, AlunaGeorge (kinda), Eric Nam, Zoe Wees, and Katie Gavin. Presently, when he’s not touring with MUNA, he is reading Vonnegut or reminiscing about that one time when he met The Rock. Following the release of his newest single “Someday,” he presents a very dreamy sound that will surely intrigue your attention. Beginning with soothing instrumentation leading onto his soft and sultry vocals he completes the song fully. Explaining the track a bit further it addresses how comfortable he feels in the low points of his life and probably why “implementing self-care” takes him so long to get to, he tends to feel at home in his transitory misery. Growing up, like most people his age (especially on the east coast seemingly) his parents didn’t have the mental health knowledge or vernacular that we’re so lucky to have now so for a long time his existence was oscillating between ignoring depression and hopelessness. Because of his time spent in that place, there’s familiarity, there’s a coziness to the enveloping gloom, so much so that the world beyond it seems foreign and uninhabitable. To the vocals and production, this single will definitely have you vibing and possibly even relating to the lyrics. It would be just great for a late-night drive or alone within your thoughts. Go stream “Someday” and check out his discography which is filled with amazing music.
