Upcoming artist WXMELL first heard the dreamy sounds of trance music pulsing through the door to his older brother’s bedroom in 2007, Maxwell Banchi felt a surge of adrenaline and knew he wanted more. Before he was even old enough to own a computer, the 10-year-old grew to learn and know about the world of dance music from those nearly a decade older than he was where he quickly fell deeply in love and began to absorb the scene, the culture, and most importantly, the music. Gathering from the hard hits of hardstyle, the history of house, the escapism of trance, and the swing of dubstep Maxwell took his love for the music that formed him and brought it all together under one name, Wxmell. He taught himself how to DJ at 12 years old and began to share his love for entertainment with the world of gloving, performing weekly on Friday nights for crowds of his peers all eager to share their personal interpretations of the lineup he was preparing just for them. After years of practice, Wxmell began to DJ bigger parties at UCLA’s top frats at just 15 years old, soon becoming a weekly resident as well as sometimes performing at quarterlies alongside the likes of Louis the Child and Far East Movement in later years. Throughout this time, he began to learn to make his own music and put the blossoming ideas in his head into music the world could enjoy. Using the simplest of sounds at the beginning, he began to manifest the most authentic version of himself that he now so artfully and intricately expresses through the universal language that is music. With the release of his newest single “THINKIN BOUT U!” he projects an exhilarating sound that will surely grasp your ears. Beginning with vibrant instrumentation leading onto smooth and catchy vocals he captures the song entirely. Explaining the track a bit further it subverts expectations structurally and instrumentally. The track kicks off with a summery synth chord progression and propulsive drum pattern, laying the foundation for a beach-side house groove. But it builds with thumping kick drums and whistling, airy synth leads before dropping into a more raw, digital soundscape. Gleefully distorted bass tones enter the mix, underlying hyperpop-esq, pitched-up vocal samples, and industrial drum fill that combine to craft an experimental, grand display of ear candy. It then drops again into a jersey club beat with house high-hat patterns, stuttering vocals, and laser perc hits. To the vocals and production, this single will definitely have you dancing. Being just great for a late-night drive or partying with some friends. Go stream “THINKIN BOUT U!” and check out his discography which is filled with astounding tracks.
