For Jake Fields, it all started with a $70 trip to a thrift store, where a cheap electric guitar and amp sparked a passion that would quickly eclipse his original dream of playing professional baseball. That simple decision led him down a path of live performances at iconic Los Angeles venues like Whisky a Go Go, Hotel Cafe, and The Troubadour, and eventually to a full-time career in music. His early solo EP, Someday You’ll Be Mine, showcased his songwriting chops, and his follow-up, No One Wants To See The Grand Canyon Alone, released under the moniker Fields of Jake, explored themes of love, loss, culture, and family with heartfelt storytelling.
Now operating under Fields of Jake, he’s gearing up to release his much-anticipated 8-song album, recorded largely at Los Angeles’ Lucy’s Meat Market, and produced alongside the renowned Jim McGorman, known for his work with the Goo Goo Dolls and Marc Broussard. Drawing from the songwriting mastery of Jackson Browne and Paul Simon, Fields of Jake crafts a sound that nods to The Kinks and Dawes, blending classic influences with a modern pop-rock perspective. His music is at once nostalgic and fresh, telling vivid stories while carrying melodies that linger long after the songs end.
The newest single, “Sprinter Van,” perfectly exemplifies this balance of narrative and melody. A bright, wanderlust-infused anthem, the song captures the allure of falling for someone who lives in the moment, leaving behind their past life to start anew. Jake explains, “I had fallen for a girl who had left her city and left some friends behind in a sprinter van.
