Sasha & The Bear was formed in Brooklyn, NY, in 2016 by good friends Sasha Daniel and Dov Igel. Sasha, a singer, songwriter, and producer, teamed up with Dov, also a songwriter, producer, and singer, to create a musical duo that would stand apart from their individual projects. Their collaboration quickly bore fruit with the release of a couple of indietronica songs that year, which immediately caught the attention of Spotify playlists and earned them a growing fan base.
The duo’s journey took a poignant turn last year when Dov tragically lost his mother. This personal loss deepened their friendship and strengthened their musical bond. Seeking solace and inspiration, Sasha and Dov decided to travel to Scandinavia, where they immersed themselves in nature, channeling their emotions into music. Armed with minimal equipment, they wrote songs that reflected themes of loss, friendship, and the serene beauty of their surroundings.
In 2023, Sasha & The Bear reconvened in the suburbs of Madrid, Spain, to finish their debut EP. The culmination of their creative efforts was released by the end of December 2023, marking a significant milestone in their career. The duo’s journey didn’t stop there. In 2024, they met again, this time in the Netherlands, to record their second EP titled “7.5 Years,” slated for release later in the year.
Their newest single, “Plastic,” is the first release from this forthcoming EP. Every year, Sasha & The Bear meet in a cabin in a different European country, and this time they found themselves in the north of the Netherlands. “Plastic” is a song that delves into the desire to escape superficiality and seek authenticity and meaning beyond the “plastic” facade of people and behaviors that surround them. The lyrics, particularly the phrase “Trust me,” are a heartfelt plea directed at their closest friends and loved ones, encouraging them to take bold steps in the pursuit of happiness. The duo’s message is clear: life is too short not to take risks and chase after what truly matters.
