But their home base in Australia holds a special place in their hearts, and their collaboration with Aussie platinum-selling artist LDRU on the track “Alone Again” catapulted them into the spotlight, tripling their online listenership. As if that weren’t impressive enough, in 2022, PEPTALK secured their first K-Pop songwriting credit with Rumble-G’s hit “Every Other,” which garnered over 613K views on YouTube alone. Their boundless creativity doesn’t stop there – alongside being musicians, Lara and Phoebe have also embarked on their production journey under the name ‘Middleman.’ The year 2023 brought even more excitement as Lara and Phoebe were personally chosen by none other than Troye Sivan and Lucas Keller to participate in APRA AMCOS’ pride songwriting camp (Songhubs). The camp was held in collaboration with World Pride and Sydney Lesbian and Gay Mardi Gras, an incredible honor that further solidifies PEPTALK’s importance in the industry. PEPTALK draws inspiration from their love for songwriting, pop hooks, and iconic women in the music world. With influences ranging from Remi Wolf to MUNA and HAIM, their sound is an irresistible blend of catchy melodies and empowering lyrics. The release of their third and final single of 2022, “Hey!,” saw them land their first-ever Spotify editorial playlists, including New Music Friday, Pop n Fresh, and Fresh Finds. The band’s live performances are equally captivating, as they bring an infectious energy that welcomes everyone with open arms. In their debut year, they graced prestigious events such as Moomba Festival, St Kilda Festival, Sydney Fringe Festival, Parramatta Lanes Festival, Sofar Sounds Sydney, and TedX Brisbane. Not to mention, they also supported Cry Club and Vetta Borne on their respective headline tours. “Close Friend” stands as one of PEPTALK’s latest singles, and it holds a poignant personal significance for band member Lara. The track delves into her own childhood experiences, as she was adopted by missionaries during a mission trip. “Close Friend” takes listeners on a journey back to Lara’s younger years, when she had a crush on a girl from church, realizing that their connection could only ever be that of close friends. The song beautifully captures the emotions of unrequited love, emphasizing the importance of the little things that can mean so much in such situations.
