Discovering the Captivating Sounds of Prince Josh’s “The Glory”

In the ever-evolving world of music, artists constantly seek new avenues of creativity and expression. One such artist, Prince Josh, born Josh McIntyre, has emerged as a multifaceted producer, songwriter, and DJ based in Toronto, Canada. Renowned as half of the electronic pop duo Prince Innocence and a member of the post-punk outfit Little Girls, signed to Mexican Summer / Captured Tracks, McIntyre has left an indelible mark on the music scene. With his debut album, “The Joy,” released in 2020, followed by a string of successful remixes and singles for esteemed labels such as Nervous Records, Kitsune, and Italians Do It Better, Prince Josh garnered resounding critical acclaim. Today, Prince Josh announces his triumphant return with his upcoming album, “Moth,” slated for release on August 25th, via Hand Drawn Dracula. Collaborating with the award-winning producer Jim Anderson (known for his work with Moby, Mark Ronson, and Massive Attack) and Joel Ford (noted for his contributions to Oneohtrix Point Never, Jacques Greene, and Com Truise), Prince Josh embarks on a stylistic shift that transcends his previous hazy lo-fi take on dance music. Instead, he embraces a crisp, three-dimensional sound rooted in the early days of trip-hop, reminiscent of the timeless compilations found on “Late Night Tales.” During the creative process, Prince Josh encountered a roadblock while searching for material to sample. In a stroke of inspiration, he decided to write full songs with the intention of deconstructing them to create something entirely new. This idea evolved into a captivating process of recording two separate works for each track and then piecing them together, creating a much larger musical puzzle. McIntyre offers us a taste of this musical metamorphosis with the release of his new single, “The Glory.” The track features a resampled vocal taken from the spring teaser single, “The Glory (Reprise).” “The Glory” showcases the direction of Prince Josh’s upcoming album, exuding an unmistakable groove infused with elements of both downtempo and an early morning haze. It serves as the perfect soundtrack for the early summer, capturing the essence of anticipation and warm nights. Prince Josh sheds light on the single, explaining, “‘The Glory’ is a collaboration between Lauren Armstrong and me. The original concept for the album was to make songs with the intention of resampling them to create new work. ‘The Glory’ is the original version of ‘The Glory (Reprise).’ Both tracks feature the same vocal, albeit in different forms. One version is pitched and chopped, while the other retains the original phrasing. Rather than creating small sections of music to sample, I wanted to make full songs to build a library of sounds to work with. Sections of ‘The Glory’ appear throughout the album.” With “Moth” on the horizon, Prince Josh’s exploration of musical boundaries and his dedication to crafting a rich tapestry of sounds become evident. Drawing from his vast experience and collaborating with industry luminaries, he has embarked on a transformative journey that promises to captivate listeners and showcase his growth as an artist. As the release date for “Moth” approaches, fans eagerly anticipate the full realization of Prince Josh’s vision. With his resounding critical success, versatility, and dedication to pushing artistic boundaries, it’s clear that Prince Josh is an artist poised for greatness. So mark your calendars for August 25th and get ready to embark on a sonic adventure with Prince Josh as he unveils his latest masterpiece, “Moth.”
